Goal Setting
Goal setting is absolutely key to achieving your goals. Yes, I said it. Because if you don't know where you are going, how can you expect to get there? The first time I rode a horse, I got on the horse with the intention that he would handle everything. That I wouldn't have to do much except hold on to my reins. So, what happened? While every ones horse was walking in a straight line, mine was all over the place. Why? Because, I didn't have a plan. I was not looking from point A to point B. I had no clue where I wanted to go. I thought the horse would do it all. Oh, he did, just not the way I thought it would work! You have to know what you want before you can tell anyone or anything else. It would be like getting in a car and letting the car decide where you are going! That doesn't even make sense. You are in control. You decide. You know I have a teenager at home. She's a great kid! Like most teenagers she will ask for things just to see how I will respond. In her eyes, you never know she might just get what she wants if she continues to ask. Okay, so I'm old fashioned I don't think she requires a cell phone until she is at least in high school. I'm not against cell phones for kids or anything, I just don't think she requires one at this stage in her life. Well, if I were not absolutely firm in my conviction about this, she would have a cell phone. Yes, I've heard all the kids have them. Yes, I know it would be great if there were an emergency she could call me. She's asked me for a phone at least 25 times in the last few years. It started in 6th grade and next year she will be in high school. We will reevaluate then! But, don't you see....I knew my plan. I knew she would not have a cell phone in the middle school. I knew where I was going. I had my goal setting in place as my north star to guide me. I have people ask me how does this work with the Law of Attraction. Great! Because goal setting helps assist you with crystal clarity on exactly what you want to create.
The S.M.A.R.T. Method has assisted me many times with goal setting.
S = Specific. Details, details, details! Details are everything to goal setting. If you are looking to get a new car, know the make and model, the price, the exterior and interior color. Leather or cloth seats? Hybrid? 2 or 4 door? Moon roof? You can see there are a lot of details when talking about buying a new car. M = Measurable. How much, how many, how will you know when you have achieved your goal? It must be within an amount you can measure. A = Attainable. You want your goal to be attainable or within your reach, but high enough that you have to go for it. If not, you would already have it in your possession. R = Relevant. It be relevant to you. Do you believe you can achieve it? You might not know "how" you will achieve it, but you know you can achieve it. T = Timely. Put a date on it! When you put a date on your goal, the goal has a ending point. What happens if you don't achieve your goal by the date? Look again at your goal and decide if you still feel passionate about it, if you do, change the date!
Keys To Getting Your Goals
Understand the Law of Attraction.
Law of Attraction
says that whatever you focus your energy and attention on, you will attract more of the same. Focus your energy and attention on receiving your goal. Stop all the negative thinking about what will happen if you don't achieve it or what others will think. Fear and doubt will steal your goal and you will attract negative energy by wallowing in the worry of not obtaining the goal. Understand the
Law of Detachment.
When you force and bulldog your way to a goal, it will repel. You must let it go and trust that you will achieve your goal! By detaching you actually attract the goal because you have faith that it is in the processed of manifesting.
One of the most important keys to goal setting is feeling passionate about your goal. Is it a burning desire? One that you think about all the time? A great goal is one that you think about and get excited! Have a goal card. Write your goal down on your goal card! Start with "I am so happy and grateful now that I have _____________(your goal.) It is important that you see yourself already in possession of your goal. It is the
Be Do Have principle.
Plan your goals for 30 days, 90 days and 1 year. I really love planning my 30 day goals for the first of every month and then I check them off as I go.
Goal setting is just the start, you must take action in goal getting! It is the small step by step actions that create big results. Sometimes it is the extra steps you take that create the success. The extra call, the last email, the phone call after dinner you weren't going to make but did is what creates a different life for you.
Celebrate every victory! Sometimes we will overlook a win and still look down the road to all that we have yet to accomplish and not celebrate our success. Take the time! Remember the Law of Attraction says that whatever we place our attention and focus on, we will attract more of the same. So, celebrate!!
